 I won my first fiction award for my story "The Mules" originally published in July 2022 in Bear Creek Gazette. The Brave New Weird Award is a new award given by Tenebrous press meant to recognize the best short fiction New Weird Horror stories published during the previous year.  What is New Weird Horror?  My sci-fi/horror story, "The Mules" which originally was published in Bear Creek Gazette Issue 10 released in July, 2022 was nominated for an award: Best in New Weird Horror of 2022. The full list of nominees can be found here This story was rejected more than 20 times before BCG editor, Stuart Buck, accepted it for his publication, so I was very surprised to be nominated (but very grateful, too!). I actually sent a couple of stories for consideration. Winners will be announced on December 1, 2022, but short-listed nominees will still be listed in the volume.  Regardless of the outcome, it's an honor to be nominated, especially for a story I struggled so long to get to see the light of day. I might make another blog post about why I wrote the story.
